Asghar Farhadi’s collection wins Iran’s Book of the Year Award

TEHRAN – The book “Seven Screenplays from Asghar Farhadi” written by Iranian Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi has received the first award in the screenplay category of the 33rd edition of Iran’s Book of the Year Awards.

Published by Cheshmeh Publications, the book contains the screenplays “Dancing in the Dust”, “Beautiful City”, “Firework Wednesday”, “About Elly”, “A Separation” and “The Past”, all of which were directed by Farhadi. It also carries the screenplay “Tambourine”, which was directed by Farhadi’s wife, Parisa Bakhtavar.

The winners were announced during a ceremony held at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Sunday attended by President Hassan Rouhani, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, and large number of Iranian and international academics, researchers and writers, Persian media reported on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Culture Minister Jannati described the Book of the Year Awards as a growing tree, which introduces the best publications of the year.

He also regretted that new, worthwhile publications are not introduced to the public very well, calling Iran’s Book of the Year Awards a good resource for introducing the finest top publications.

In the bibliography category, the first award went to “List of Published Translated Books” collected by Fereshteh Naseri, Mahin Fazaeli, Mohammad-Karim Rahmanipur and Hamzaeh Kahani.

The book “Anwar al-Fuqahah” by Sheikh Hassan Kashif Alghata won the first award in the Fiqh category.

In the archaic language section, the first award went to “Culture of Morphology of Persian Language” by Mohammad-Hassandust, while a Persian translation of “A Short Account of Early Muslim Architecture” (Keppel Archibald Cameron Creswell) translated by Mehdi Golshin Arefi won the first award in the architecture section.

A Persian translation of Jorge Luis Borges’ “Cartas del Fervor” by Najmeh Shobeiri won the first award in the literature and other languages section.

In the history section, three books including “Lettre Ouverte a Alexandre le Grand” (Pierre Briant) translated into Persian by Mahshid Nonahali, “Stalin” (Edvard Radzinsky) translated by Abtin Golkar and “Comprehensive History of Iran” by Kazem Musavi Bojnurdi shared the first award.

“History of Iranian Children’s Literature” by Mohammad-Hadi Mohammadi and Zohreh Qaini was the first award winner in the children section and the book “Mammals, Canine and Hyenas” by Ali Golshan won the first award in the children’s science section.

Moreover, the winners of the 23rd edition of the international section of the award were also announced at the ceremony, where the Award of the Best Researcher of the Year went to American Professor Muhammad Legenhausen, the author of the books “Contemporary Topics of Islamic Thought” and “Islam and Religious Pluralism”.
